Molde Jazz celebrates eighty years of Karin Krog!

Norway's First Lady of Jazz celebrates with the concert series on Bjrnsonhuset.

When Karin Krog took Revehallen - at the inaugural Molde Jazz concert in 1961 - many would not have predicted that she would be concluding the very same festival concert on the main stage in Bjrnsonhuset 56 years later. This year she will, and in addition celebrate her 80 years. Besides, Karin has performed at Moldejazz a number of times between 1961 and 2017 with various groups in a wide variety of musical acts. Now she is - appropriately enough - back with a brilliant band in solid swinging mainstream tradition, not unlike what she played with in 1961 when she finished her set with an impromptu introduction of next soloist and sang: "Benny Bailey, you can come in now and play. "

In this year's band we find perhaps the leading tenor saxophonist of classical jazz today, Scott Hamilton, a brilliant musician who reminds people of Ben Webster, Lester Young and Dexter Gordon. And if anyone is should still in doubt, read what Dagbladet's Fredrik Wandrup writes:

Jan Lundgren is one of Sweden's most driven jazz pianists. Along with his compatriot Hans Backenroth on bass and Kristian Leth on drums they back Karin Krog and saxophonist Scott Hamilton on the album "The Best Things In Life."One of the best life has to offer, are albums like this; full as it is of enthusiasm, virtuosity, strong solos and breathtaking interactions. I hear more and more jazz enthusiasts say that Karin Krog has just become "better and better". She is without a doubt an amazing performer, and the albums she releases, such as last year's "Break of Day" is a pearl in her string of releases.
