The biggest jazz event in Norway in 2017 will take place in Molde on July 19, when Herbie Hancock finally comes to Bjørnsonhuset - with a brand new project!

In addition to being one of the most influential jazz pianists ever, the likeable American is also very interested and engaged in both politics and music simultaneously. He has been involved deeply in the jazz and music education around the world and sees it all in the context of contributing to a better and more peaceful world. He has also been named UNESCO goodwill ambassador, an honor and task he takes very seriously and with the utmost enthusiasm.

But Hancock does not communicate in just one way. He has recently been directed more towards a younger, modern generation of musicians, collaborators and producers, and this is also reflected in his new crew.

He has with saxophonist and keyboardist Terrace Martin, perhaps best known as a producer for Kendrick Lamar Two pimp a butterfly. He has also worked with Puff Daddy, Stevie Wonder, Kamasi Washington, Lala Hathaway, Robert Glasper, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Kalifa.

On drums we find Vinnie Colaiuta, know from countless collaboration with a wide range of world music pioneers as Frank Zappa, Joni Mitchell, Megadeth, Beach Boys, Leonard Cohen, Sting, Jeff Beck, Chick Corea and John McLaughlin.
On bass, he has James Genus and on guitar West African Lionel Loueke. The latter allows for a wider musical expression, which Hancock talks about in connection with his upcoming release, in which Loueke also contributes.

Hancock reveals that he likes to include his classic pieces in concerts he plays, and he has a great deal to choose from,  mannen behind compositions like Maiden Voyage, Watermelon Man, Chameleon, Dolphin Dance and the Sorcerer.

This is a new project from an obviously engaged Hancock, and although we do not know the details of the new music, there is no doubt that Hancock and his star crew will guarantee a major concert event.
