Cortex was founded by Thomas Johansson in spring 2007, and is a quartet consisting of four young, energetic jazz musicians that are really starting to make their mark on Norwegian jazz.

The quartet plays original compositions by Johansson and focuses on energy, groove, dynamics, interaction and mixing genres. The quartet's inspiration includes Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry and John Zorn. Cortex has received much well-deserved praise for their new eponymous CD that was released on the record company Bolage.
