Carsten Dahl Experience |

This new Danish quartet displays exceptional qualities, with acoustic jazz in an open landscape where tradition absorbs impulses from the trends of the past few decades. Pianist Carsten Dahl has already delighted international audiences and critics as the head of a trio and solo pianist. When the trio expanded a few years ago with the addition of Jesper Zeuthen, an alto saxophonist with just about the most personal expression around, the band acquired a new dimension. Zeuthen has long been one of jazz's hidden treasures; a singer on the saxophone with a powerful melodic style that leaves no audience unmoved. His Jesper Zeuthen Trio was named Danish Jazz Album of the Year 2010 by the magazine Jazz Special.
Carsten Dahl’s piano skills really come to the fore in this group, which he fronts along with Zeuthen. Some think their music contains references to the Garbarek/Jarrett quartet. And there may be some truth in that. In any case, this is personal and contemporary acoustic jazz that spans from lyrical melancholy to red-hot interpretations, with digressions to the Balkans and Africa along the way.
