For more than 10 years, Ingar Zach and Ivar Grydeland have run the improvised music label SOFA and come into contact with many different musicians, for example through the project ’No spaghetti edition’, an improvisation ensemble with a flexible line-up. It is more than five years since their meetings with Christan Wallumrød and Frenchman Xavier Charles inspired them to put together the band Dans Les Arbres. Their acoustic sound makes for truly beautiful music. In a review of their eponymous debut album on ECM, The Wire wrote: ’There’s no end to the delights of this quite magical disc. The finest composition, like improvisation, ultimately relies on intuition, and these players seem to have an innate grasp of the right combination of sounds and textures. Dans les arbres must be one of the finest ECM Improv releases – indeed, releases from any label – in recent years.’ (Andy Hamilton, The Wire)
