He comes from a musical family and plays more or less whatever instrument he fancies. He made his breakthrough as a high-profile member of Jaga Jazzist. He was voted the world’s best jazz talent by the International Jazz Festivals Organization and the International Association for Jazz Education in 2006. Since then, he has embarked on a career as a solo artist. His debut album ‘The Door’ was released on ECM in 2008, and this year’s follow-up album, ‘Skala’, confirms Eick’s flair for melody and as an instrumentalist. The band’s two drummers ensure extra power and energy. At the concert in Molde, Mathias is adding another keyboard player to the line-up as well as an extra drum kit.
