Stian Westerhus is one of the most exciting contemporary instrumentalists around today. His unorthodox guitar style is exciting and potent, full of round, warm harmonies and unfamiliar sound effects. Playing only his guitar and his sound effects box, he can sound like a full band.
But now, thanks to Sparebank 1 SMN’s scholarship award JazZtipendiat 2010, he has been given the opportunity to put together a large orchestra that will translate his ideas into sounds in a totally new way. Trondheim Jazz Orchestra is a pool of exciting and talented musicians from which the winner of the scholarship can choose in order to form an orchestra to fulfil his ideas. We are sure that this will result in a concert the like of which we have never heard before.
