A taste of Norwegian jazz' future

Eight exciting bands consisting of young, skilled jazz-musicians have been handpicked to participate in Jazzintro 2014. After four introductory rounds at Vossajazz, Maijazz, Nattjazz and Kongsberg Jazzfestival we're left with four bands, out of whom only one can take home the title of "Årets unge jazzmusikere" after the Jazzintro-finale in Molde. The winning band will, over the next two years, receive a large "release-package" from Norsk Jazzforum, in addition to a 150.000 NOK grant from the compensation agency Gramo.

This years contestants for Jazzintro are: Monkey Plot, Morning Has occurred, Karokh, PGA, Torstein Ekspress, Hullyboo, Operasjon Hegge, and Hatch. Four of these will perform as part of the finale held during Moldejazz.

The jury for Jazzintro 2014 consists of: Tord Gustavsen, Gunhild Seim, Gard Nilssen, and Hedvig Mollestad Thomassen. Øyvind Skjerven Larsen, project leader for Norsk jazzform, is the jury foreman.

Jazzintro is a launch program for young, professional jazz-performers, and is arranged bi-annually by Norsk Jazzforum in cooperation with Vossajazz, Maijazz, Nattjazz, Kongsberg Jazzfestival, and Moldejazz.

Previous winners of Jazzintro are Urban Connection (1998), ra (2000), Solid! (2002), in the country (2004), Puma (2006), Albatrosh (2008), Ferner/Juliusson (2010), and Mopti (2012).
