Further development of commissioned work from Vossajazz 2012

Norways premier goat-horn-player and tenor-saxophonist has an impressive drive to continually explore the relations between jazz and folk-music - and everything around, and everything outside. It's hard to label Karl Seglem. Several of his projects through many years have in common that they distance themselves from the origin of the music, per example by combining traditional instruments and electronics, so that the music primarily becomes a personal expression. Or "world jazz", as he himself labels the mix of music and soundscape. Mountains, dunes of sand and the concrete jungle. Compelling, outgoing and beautiful.

Morgonspor is based on the commissioned work for Vossajazz 2012, Som spor, which is set to be released on CD and vinyl during the fall of 2014. Here we find a handpicked ensemble with two Hardanger-fiddles, as well as keys, bass, drums and percussion.

Seglem and his co-musicians take the early-birds on a journey through musical diversity, where moods and elements from folk meet expressions we associate with jazz, both through meditative stretches, and with a progress and groove whose style stake out new courses.

- I very much look forward to presenting this continued development of Som Spor, and [I] think the break-of-day concert, and especially the beautiful nature in and around Reknesparken, are a fine match for my music, says Seglem to Moldejazz.

Moldejazz wishes to extend their thanks to Istad whom, for the seventh year running, are a part of making the Break of Day in Molde concert held in Reknesparken a possibility. The first concert was held in 2008; the fortieth anniversary since Karing Krogh and Johs. Berg wrote the song "Break of Day in Molde" on their way home from a late-night Molde-jam.

Moldejazz thinks it's great to be part of the further development of a commissioned work for another festival. - This is a prime example of how different festivals can work together and ensure that a commissioned work doesn't end with just one concert, but is allowed to live on, says Festival Director Anders Eriksson.
