Fully acoustic, handpicked Sekstetten

When Endresen turned 60 in 2012 it was celebrated with a anniversary concert at Victoria Nasjon jazzscene in Oslo. For the occasion Endresen composed a sextet consisting of handpicked musicians - Christian Wallumrød on piano and synths, Eivind Lønning on trumpet, Espen Reinertsen on saxophone, Vilde Sandve Alnæs on violin and Inga Margrethe Aas on contrabass.

The performance at Victoria, Sekstetten's sole appearance to date, left them with a taste for more, and they've stayed in touch ever since. Now they are ready with new material, and they will premiere this at Teateret Vårt on Monday, July 14th at 6 o'clock in the evening.

We can expect Endresen in her true element, the free improvisation, but also in a fully acoustic setting where instruments and vocals let the sound-waves interweave. If you're not one of the lucky few who got to experience the anniversary concert in 2012, you should make sure to attend Sekstetten this time around. (Sekstetten is the Norwegian word for sextet, and is the name Endresen chose for her sextet)

Alnæs & Aas play together under the name Vilde & Inga, and have both studied under Endresen at the Norwegian School of Music. They hail from classical music and contemporary music, and operate within free improvisation on, respectively, violin and contrabass. Their debut album, Makrofauna, was released on the label ECM this March.

Reinertsen and Lønning are known as the tenor-saxophone and trumpet duo Streifenjunko when not performing with Sekstetten. As with Vilde & Inga they have an accoustic approach to their instruments and music. Streifenjunko labels themselves as a genre-defying improv-duo and have released two albums to date.

Keyboardist Christian Wallumrød has, as orchestra leader, played with both Reinertsen and Lønning. He has also collaborated with Endresen in multiple other constellations, including Merriwinkle which are set to have their reunion during this years festival. It can also be noted that Christian Wallumrøds' various ensembles have been going strong since the mid-90's, and that we know him from groups such as Dans Les Arbres and Close Erase.

This is one of multiple concerts under the direction of this years Artist in Residence, Sidsel Endresen. You'll also want to pay attention to Endresen/Westerhus, previously mentioned Merriwinkle, and Endresen, Jan Bang and Erik Honoré performing a live remix of two critically acclaimed, international arists. If you want to know just which two artists you'll have to pay attention to Moldejazz' next artist release at 12:00 on Wednesday April 9th.
