The single «But We Did», taken from What's Left is Forever has been played frequently on Norwegian radio-channels. Dybdahl, with an ambition of making a breakthrough in the US, recorded his latest album in Henson Recording Studios, LA, with none other than the legendary producer Larry Klein. Klein has, through the years, worked with Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin and Herbie Hancock, to name but a few!
In conjunction with Trondheim Jazzorkester and Kristoffer Lo also appearing at this years festival, talks have been initiated between Dybdahl and Ola Kvernberg (performing in Lo's composition of Trondheim Jazzorkester). The two melancholics have previously played together on several occations, and also this time Kvernberg, one of Norway's most creative violinists, is set to join Dybdahl on stage.
Band-leader, composer and violinist Kvernberg has had a remarkable career over the past few years.
The album and performance Liarbird (2011) saw Kvernberg take home «Spellemannsprisen» for «Best Jazz album», and in 2012 he was awarded the Kongsberg Jazzfestival musician award. We could also add that he, last summer, received an Amanda-price for the music he composed for the feature film Jag etter vind. Last autumn Kvernberg released the album Northern Tapes.
Kvernberg and Dybdahl share not only their melancholy, but also their ability to play with, to challenge, and to be themselves through their flirtations with unfamiliar genres, or through electrifying and distorting their instruments - and, by doing so, our expectations.
