Iva Bittova was born into a musically gifted family in what was then known as Czechoslovakia. Since then it has become her trademark to combine her musical heritage with breakneck improvisations and playful compositions. Joining her in Eviyan are Americans Gyan Riley (classical guitar) and Evan Ziporyn (clarinett); and together they constitute a trio which operates at the crossover between free improvisation, eastern-European folk, and jazz. To Molde they also bring tabla-guruSandeep Das. 

According to the group itself Eviyan is an attempt to recreate the "global village" of present times in musical form. It might also be said that they are quite successful. With Das' tabla-play, Bittovas playful use of both voice and violin, Rileys guitar treatment and Ziporyn's playful clarinet they achieve a truly unique mix.
