| Saturday the 24th of July you can experience Norwegian guitarplayer Terje Rypdal resuming his collaboration with Miroslav Vitous and completing the trio with drummer Gerald Cleaver. |

Starting out as a Hank Marvin-influenced rock guitarist with The Vanguards, Terje Rypdal turned towards jazz in 1968 and joined Jan Garbarek's group and later George Russell's sextet and orchestra. An important step towards international attention was his participation in the free jazz festival in Baden-Baden, Germany in 1969, where he was part of a band led by Lester Bowie. During his musical studies at Oslo university and conservatory, he led the orchestra of the Norwegian version of the musical Hair. He has often been recorded on the ECM record label, both jazz-oriented material and classical compositions (some of which do not feature Rypdal's guitar).
Miroslav Vitou is a Czech jazz bassist who was born in Prague.
Vitou's virtuoso jazz bass playing has led critics to place him in the same league as Scott LaFaro, Dave Holland, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Christian McBride. A representative example of Vitou's double bass playing is Now He Sings, Now He Sobs (1968), with Chick Corea on piano and Roy Haynes on drums. This album shows his strong rhythmic sense, innovative walking lines, and intensity and abandon as an improviser.
Born May 4, 1963 and raised in Detroit, Gerald Cleaver is a product of the citys rich music tradition. Inspired by his father, drummer John Cleaver, he began playing the drums at an early age. He has performed or recorded with several great artists. His 2001 recording "Adjust" (Fresh Sound New Talent) was nominated in the Best Debut Recording category by the Jazz Journalists Association. "Gerald Cleaver's Detroit" (FSNT), is an homage to his hometown and to the late, great Detroit drummers Roy Brooks, Lawrence Williams, George Goldsmith and Richard "Pistol" Allen. Cleaver leads the bands Violet Hour, NiMbNl, Uncle June and Farmers By Nature. |
