Exclusive triple concert
30. May 2011

Everything is in place for a concert experience beyond the ordinary at Romsdalsmuseet on Friday 22 July. Electronica pioneers RÖYKSOPP are performing one of only two concerts in Norway this summer in Molde. Irish SINÉAD O’CONNOR, the singer with the strong and characteristic voice, performs her only concert in Scandinavia at Romsdalsmuseet. JARLE BERNHOFT BAND, whose concert at Kulturhuset a few years ago was a massive success, are just about to break through internationally and this year they are performing at the festival's largest venue.

Röyksopp are legends in Norwegian electronica. They rarely perform live in Norway, but on this Friday you will get the chance to experience them at Romsdalsmuseet. Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland, both originally from Tromsø, formed the duo Röyksopp in Bergen in 1998. As part of the so-called Bergen Wave that formed around the record company Tellé, they received a fair amount of attention with their first EPs. However, no one could have predicted the phenomenal international success of their debut album Melody AM, which was released in 2001. Singles from this album such as Eple, Poor Leno and Remind Me were also very successful. Since then, they have maintained their position as one of the best and most popular electronica bands with their albums The Understanding (2005), Junior (2009) and Senior (2010). Throughout this time, Röyksopp have been a successful live band, which is not a claim all electronica bands can make. Everything suggests the evening at Romsdalsmuseet will be an eventful one.

Irish Sinéad O’Connor broke through in 1987 with her debut album The Lion and the Cobra. However, major fame did not come until 1990 with her interpretation of Nothing Compares 2 U, a song Prince originally wrote for the far less successful band The Family. Since then, she has released a number of albums, collaborated with a long line of famous artists and caused a handful of scandals, not least due to her views on the Catholic Church's failure to condemn child abuse. In September she is releasing her new album Home, which is rumoured to consist of proper 'comeback material', and the snippets that have been made available online suggest this is correct. This summer she is playing a handful of acoustic concerts around Europe, where she will be performing music spanning her long career. This concert will be a rare opportunity to hear her strong and characteristic voice in Norway.

One of the most talked about concerts during Moldejazz 2009 was Jarle Bernhoft's performance at Kulturhuset. Bernhoft and his eight man band wowed both the audience and critics, and it is no coincidence that recordings of this night can be found on Bernhoft's double live album 1: Man 2: Band. After releasing his second studio album Solidarity Breaks, the multi-instrumentalist and technically gifted vocalist Bernhoft has been predicted an international breakthrough. This summer's performance at Romsdalsmuseet may contribute to this, in the same way that the concert at Kulturhuset contributed to his national breakthrough two years ago.

It has already been confirmed that bassist Dave Holland will be the festival's Artist In Residence and that John McLaughlin, the vocal trio Sing the Truth! consisting of stars Dianne Reeves/Angelique Kidjo/Lizz Wright, Kaizers Orchestra, Mathias Eick Band, Supersilent with John Paul Jones and many, many others will be playing at this year's festival, cf. www.moldejazz.no
