The trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær from Sula is this year's Artist in Residence at Moldejazz. Molvær has during the last fifteen years made his mark as one of the most profiled Norwegian jazzmusicians, nationally and internationally. Nils Petter will be playing 5-6 concerts during the festival. The saxophon legend Sonny Rollins is making his debut in Molde the same year he turns 80. Rollins has been a groundbreaking musician since he had his big breakthrough working with Miles Davis and his own recordings ”Saxophone Colossus” and ”The Bridge” stand as milestones in the history of jazz music. Rollins is still active touring and recording and in November of 2009 he excited critics and a selective audience at the London Jazzfestival. Sonny Rollins hasn't played in Norway since 1996, and is doing three concerts in Europe this summer; Perugia, Rotterdam and Molde can welcome this exclusive guest. The guitarhero Jeff Beck had his breakthrough with the band Yardbirds in the 1960s. He is often refered to as the guitarist of guitarists, and his name is mentioned in the same breath as Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. Two years ago he recorded a critically acclaimed concert CD/DVD at the Ronnie Scott Jazzclub in London, and he recently recieved a Grammy-award for best instrumentalist.
