Herbie Hancock & Bobby McFerrin ready for Moldejazz!



Other artists coming to join the jubilee festival are Hairy Bones, Denada, Fly, Gunhild Seim & Time Jungle, Mari Kvien Brunvoll, Steinar Raknes and Sidsel Endresen with Stian Westerhus.

The jubilees are standing in line to celebrate the 50th jazzfestival in Molde. As previously announced, the 80- year old Sonny Rollins and Nils Petter Molvær, who turns 50 this year, are coming to Moldejazz. It is now confirmed that the pianist Herbie Hancock, soon to be 70 and Bobby McFerrin, recently turned 60 will be participating in the jubilee festival.  

Herbie Hancock is coming to Moldejazz to play at the outdoorscene at Romsdalsmuseet thursday the 22nd of July. He brings with him a group of six people with guitarist Lionel Loueke, bass-player Tal Wilkenfeld, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and two vocalists. Hancock has been one of the most important pianists of jazz music since his breakthrough in the mid 60's. For the album 'The River', Herbie Hancock recieved a Grammy award for album of the year in 2007- the second jazzalbum in history to recieve this recognition. Herbie Hancock is currently working in the recordingstudio to finish working on his new album. The album "The Imagine Project" is scheduled to be released in June this year. We have previously announced that the guitarist Jeff Beck will be playing at Romsdalsmuseet on the same day. - Jeff Beck is also a guest musician on Hancock's new album.

The super vocalist Bobby McFerrin will be doing two concerts in the Molde Cathedral; Thursday the 22nd and Friday the 23rd of July. Ever since he had his breakthrough with the larger audience with the megahit "Don't Worry, Be Happy", McFerrin has been a favourite among critics and audience. McFerrin is a versatile vocalist and musician and he recently published the album ”VOCAbuLarieS”. McFerrin will invite a musical guest to each of his concerts.

The power-quartet ”Hairy Bones” with Peter Brötzmann, Toshinori Kondo, Massimo Puppillo and Paal Nilssen-Love will be playing at Kulturhuset. The same will the Norwegian ensamble ”Denada” who recently recieved the prestigious German ECHO- award. .

In Alexandrakjelleren you can experience the Norwegian grand talent Gunhild Seim & Time Jungle and the supertrio ”FLY”, with Mark Turner, Larry Grenadier and Jeff Ballard.

The conserts at Forum is opened and ending with strong female voices. Monday the 19th of July the Molde-girl Mari Kvien Brunvoll, who is about to get her international breakthrough, makes her Moldejazz debut. Saturday the Forum concerts ends with the voiceartist Sidsel Endresen together with our new guitar phenomenon Stian Westerhus. The bass-player Steinar Raknes, who last year got a stipendium from Shell, gives a solo concert at Forum.
