When SKRUK & Vårsøg join Sondre Bratland in Molde Cathedral for Moldejazz, it is certain to be a huge concert. Following the success of SKRUK & Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir who sold out at the cathedral three times in 2015, it was natural for MoldeJazz to invite SKRUK to make a new collaborative project in 2016. The new project has been given the title "Hymner fra vest - salmer og sanger vi gjerne hører en gang til (Hymns from the west - the hymns and songs we'd like hear again)"and has been on a partnership with Vårsøg and Henning Sommero. With audience favorite Sondre Bratland also joining, the stage is set for yet another successful concert.

Simultaneously with the publication of promotional material of the church concert, Moldejazz printed out tickets to another beloved group of Molde Jazz, Ytre Suløens Jass-Ensemble, playing in New Perspiration Hall.

SKRUK & Vårsøg meet Sondre Bratland

In 1978 SKRUK and Vårsøg released the album " Av moll er du komen, til dur skal du bli", a collection of hymns and songs with folktunes from Møre og Romsdal, arranged by Henning Sommerro for SKRUK and Vårsøg. The release provoked strong reactions both in folk circles and in some church circles because of the unfamiliar crew and that there was a "dance orchestra" involved with the choir. The program was denied performance both in Molde Cathedral and Alesund Church. In 2016 many will smile at this, but in 1978 it was earnest. In retrospect, many have stated that " Av moll er du komen, til dur skal du bli " has inspired other artists and organizers who have created "new" versions of good old tunes. At Molde Jazz 2016 SKRUK and Vårsøg will be reunited, and you will hear the songs from " Av moll er du komen, til dur skal du bli", and newly arranged songs from Henning Sommerro. SKRUK and Vårsøg are looking forward to this reunion and not least to bring beloved Sondre Bratland as a guest in the program.

Ytre Suløens Jass-ensemble

Ytre Suløen, as the band is often called, has been going strong for more than forty years. In the recent years there has admittedly been a number of personnel changes in the band and the new members have helped to renew the "Ytre Suløen Sound" without compromising the band's original musical idea. The band offers a special mix of traditional New Orleans jazz and more contemporary compositions. Here we find ragtime, gospel, some Caribbean music, blues and swing. In addition to Creole music, the stage is set for a Creole buffet in Hjertøy lounge at Alexandra. The tickets sold are with or without food.

Moldejazz has previously launched Chick Corea - Homage to Heroes, Branford Marsalis with Kurt Elling, Ane Brun, Joss Stone, Esperanza Spalding, Steps Ahead, Jaga Jazzist, Lizz Wright, Karpe Diem, Lemaitre, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra & Scrap, In the Country with Solveig Slettahjell and Reiersrud, Lars Vaular, Kaja Draksler & Susana Santos Silva, Marilyn Mazur's Shamani, Anna Högberg Attack, Driving Miles, Eyolf Dale's Wolf Valley, Ivan Ave, Mutual Intentions and Ola Kvernberg as Artist In Residence with the projects "Mechanical Fair" "Steam Dome," "Porkotta" and "Kirsti, Ola and Erik."

Tickets can be purchased online through Moldejazz.com from kl. 11:30 17 / 3-16.
