Mari Kvien Brunvoll is the Molde girl who went to Bergen to study at the Grieg Academy. She managed to make her mark as a creative musician with solo projects and as a member of various ensembles already in her college years. Building Instrument is a Bergen-based trio that blends acoustic and electronic expression through their own distinct compositions. The music embraces much and is genre independent, with creativity and playfulness at the center. The journey usually goes from catchy rhythms via free improvised passages to evoked melodies. In repertoire there are also texts in Molde dialect, written by vocalist Mari Kvien Brunvoll. As a band they form a unique expression, which sounds precisely like Building Instrument. The group's first album was released in March 2014, which received considerable positive publicity as the Irish Times wrote this, "It's a pleasure to discover their creativity and cheerfully aggressive attitude to music. The trio build brilliantly colorful pieces, with texture and drama, and plenty of soundtrack elements ... It's exciting to watch, very accessible and highly emotive. This is definitely a band two seek out if the opportunity presents itself."
